We are looking for a well-trained, highly motivated and academically excellent Research Assistant to join our research team and become a member of the Inherited Heart Muscle Disease Group led by Professor Hugh Watkins FRS FMedSci. A significant focus for the post is to investigate the role of the innate immune system in cardiac tissue remodelling in response to dysfunctional cardiomyocytes carrying myofilament mutation(s) using the HCM mouse models. The work will employ the cutting edge single cell genomic approaches, well-established in vivo mouse models, advanced immunological and imaging techniques (e.g. FACSymphony, cell sorting, CyTOF, two-photon confocal fluorescence microscopy, and light sheet microscopy), leading to the identification of new targets for therapy for families with cardiomyopathy.

You will hold a PhD degree in immunology, molecular and cell biology or similar and have the capacity to deliver high quality research outputs, as illustrated by a strong publication record in high profile immunological journals. Proven experience in macrophage biology is desirable.

This full-time appointment is fixed-term until 9 September 2023 and you will work under the supervision of Professor Houman Ashrafian, Professor Charles Redwood and Professor Hugh Watkins in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine in collaboration with Professor Vincenzo Cerundolo at the MRC Human Immunology Unit at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine. You will be based at the Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics, Roosevelt Drive Oxford.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online; you will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement which explains how you meet the selection criteria for the post.

Only applications received before 12.00 midday on 2 November 2018 can be considered. Interviews are scheduled to place on 16 November 2018.
