Job Summary:


The China Representative’s primary responsibility will be to meet student recruitment targets for mainland Chinese students to the University of Lincoln’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.  The post holder will work closely with the Senior International Officer/Assistant Director (East Asia) in the University’s International Office.  In addition, the China Representative will provide support to Study Group in the recruitment of students to the University of Lincoln’s International Study Centre.  The China Representative will also have opportunities to contribute to other aspects of the University’s work in China, particularly in supporting the development of the University of Lincoln’s  alumni network in China ,working closely with the University’s Alumni Office


Note: This role will require extensive travel within Mainland China, as well as occasional travel to the UK.

Key Responsibilities:


1. Student Recruitment


Undertake recruitment activities in China, including attendance at exhibitions and visits to universities, schools and University of Lincoln agents, with a focus on the recruitment of students onto postgraduate taught programmes, postgraduate research programmes and undergraduate programmes at the University of Lincoln.


 


2. Work with existing and seek potential new partners within China for the University of Lincoln which will yield students, based on set criteria, and provide written reports to the Director of International on viability of new partnerships for further discussion with colleagues


 


3. Education Agent Network


Support development of the  University of Lincoln’s links with key education agents in Mainland China, undertaking training of counsellors and developing effective relationships with staff at agents offices across the country.  


 


4. Market research and insight


Provide advice to the University on developments in the China market so as to inform the University’s China Marketing and Recruitment strategy


 


5. Marketing and social media 


Support the development of the University of Lincoln’s  social media and digital engagement in China, including advice on development of Lincoln’s website, weibo site, and WeChat account.


 


6. Communication with applicants


Provide advice and support (e.g. face·to·face, via e·mail and on skype) to applicants to the University of Lincoln..


 


7. Administration and planning


Provide monthly reports of activity and future plans; and maintain good records and engage in Skype training sessions with the Director of International and the Senior International Officer for SE Asia.


 


8. General


Undertake other activities as required and contribute fully to the work of  The University of Lincoln’s ’s international student recruitment team.


 


 


Person specification


1. Experience / qualifications 


Essential 


• Educated to Degree standard 


• Experience of working in the higher education sector and / or knowledge of UK higher education


• Experience of working in a marketing, sales or customer·facing role


Desirable 


• Post Graduate qualification 


• Experience of International student recruitment in higher education


• Knowledge of the University of Lincoln (as a student and / or in a professional capacity)


2. Aptitude, skills and disposition


Technical


• Excellent bilingual skills in Mandarin Chinese and English (both written and verbal).  Knowledge of Cantonese would also be useful, though is not essential.


• Good IT skills, including experience of using MS Word, MS Excel, and email.


• Excellent presentation and communication skills  and experience of running events


• Experience of dealing with cultural sensitivity issues requiring tact, diplomacy and a calm approach in difficult situations


• Experience of using social media sites in a professional context


• Experience of developing a range of marketing materials
